“Why Young Indians Are Losing Trust in Traditional News”

“BREAKING NEWS!”

At this point, even Indian parents hear that line so many times that nobody even reacts anymore.

My Dad still watches TV debates sometimes, but after 10 minutes he even says, “Ye news hai ya Bigg Boss?”

For people my age, TV news honestly feels more exhausting than informative.

One anchor screams.
Another panelist cuts him off.
Someone says “nation wants to know.”
And somehow the actual topic disappears completely.

“Half the country is discussing serious issues while other half is busy watching anchors fighting like it’s Roadies audition”

News or Noise?

Young people are not avoiding news.

They’re avoiding unnecessary drama.

Most traditional news channels today focus more on:

  • loud debates
  • political fights
  • fear
  • outrage
  • TRP

Instead of giving simple and useful information.

As an engineering student, after surviving assignments, labs, attendance pressure, and low internal marks… the last thing I want is another shouting session on TV.

Social Media Became the New Newspaper

Today’s generation gets news from:

  • Instagram
  • YouTube
  • X (Twitter)
  • Reddit
  • meme pages

Why?

Because honestly, a 30-second reel sometimes explains current affairs better than a 1-hour debate full of interruptions.

Half the time, I understand political news from memes first and then Google the actual topic later.

That’s honestly scary for traditional media.

Young People Can Sense Fake Energy

Gen Z grew up online.

They quickly notice:

  • scripted reactions
  • biased reporting
  • fake outrage
  • clickbait headlines

And once trust is gone, it’s hard to get back.

People don’t expect news channels to be perfect.

They just want honesty.

The Real Problem

Traditional news forgot one important thing:

People watch news to understand the world — not to get Pradhan Mantri ne aaj Jhalmuri Khayi.

Young Indians are not disconnected from news.

We’re just tired of drama pretending to be journalism.

People still care about what’s happening in the country.
They just want news that feels honest, simple, and real.

Maybe traditional media doesn’t need louder debates.

Maybe it just needs to talk like a human again.

Do you still trust traditional news channels? Yes / No / Sometimes
